Our adventure began in March 2020 when we rented an old travel trailer from the Navy base's MWR shop, for a week. Little did we know just how much we would love it!
It was old, smelly, grungy and a tight squeeze with the pups, but we were so happy!
Eric and I have been talking about getting an RV for several years now - thoughts about downsizing and living on the road were thrown around. Figuring a way to create portraits wherever we go and make a small living at it is a dream of mine.
We thought for sure that we'd buy a Class C (like this one: Winnebago Class C) so that we could have the pups in the trailer on the road but then our camping trip with the used, dilapidated travel trailer made us realize, we preferred the ability to disconnect our FJ and drive around to explore.
So one rainy day during our camping trip - we researched lightweight travel trailers that our 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser could pull easily. Immediately, LANCE 1575 showed up as a great travel trailer with a slide, as one of the best you could get. It fit our requirements of length, weight and a slide - those are just a few of the items we liked about it and the weight being within the FJ's limits of 5000 Lbs towing capability….
We researched and researched over the next several months - a Lance would cost about twice as much as other cheaper brands - finding one to even look at would take a 8-10 hour roundtrip and of course, COVID was ramping up with quarantines being put in place. It would be a couple more months of thinking about it and justifying the price to make a decision!
Meanwhile, we enjoyed visits to several beautiful Virginia State Parks, getting back from those just before they shut them down to camping the next month and half!
Enjoy a few of my favorites from our trip, more to come!
